1) Prove it! [by Cavalrymen on March 26, 2008]
After researching the self-sustaining record of airports, 14 of them here in KY, I found not one was self sustaining. All received Federal and/or State and/or County tax monies to maintain operations. Remove aircraft property taxes and more monies will be taken from other government endeavors to support airports. By the way, others have posted examples of beneficial economic activity (purchase of fuel for example) if planes are located at KY airports rather than outside the state. I question that result. Pilots will purchase fuel where it is the cheapest. If you could save $75.00 per tank fuel would you fly 15 minutes to get it and then land at "your" airport? I know pilots who do just that.

2) Prove it! [by Anonymous Citizen on March 26, 2008]
I am tired of hearing that airports generate economic gains for the local community. Prove it! Of 14 KY airports checked recently all but one received tax monies from the state and local (county) govenrments to maintain operations. They are a liability on local governments and the state. Particularly in this time of tight budgets. By the way the 14th (Bowman field) was subsidized by the Federal government to meet operational costs. Why should a select few, who are already being subsidized by government be allowed even more preferred treatment from taxation?

3) Win/Win! [by Anonymous Citizen on March 11, 2008]
I support this bill so that airplane owners will re-locate their aircraft at Kentucky airports. If airplanes are located in Kentucky, the state will benefit by increased revenue from aircraft fuel and other services. Aviation businesses will stay in Kentucky rather than move to surrounding states. Other states understand this issue and they are reaping the rewards.

Other businesses will benefit from this legislation such as aircraft mechanics, airport support staff, and other service related businesses.

Let's stop giving surrounding states the economic benefit due to our inadequate policies! Support this bill.

I am strongly in favor of bill 705. In my years of service to the Bowling Green/Warren County Airport, I have seen aviation grow in the state of Kentucky. However, recently a disturbing trend has been observed. Aircraft owners are starting to move their planes to airports in Tennessee to avoid paying taxes in Kentucky. This causes a loss of revenue to our airport, to Bowling Green and Warren County.

7) Grow Aviation! [by barney on March 4, 2008]
As an airport operator in the State of Kentucky it is very difficult to recruit new aviation businesses to our community due to the taxes associated with aircraft ownership. I hope that everyone understands that when a flight department locates on an airport it generates the following: payroll taxes, rental car usage, lease revenue for the airport, hotel usage, restaurant usage, airport operations, fuel purchases and many many more economic benefits. This is an issue about making our state a friendlier place to do business and grow. There are several other states that have failed to address this very issue and they have either lost business or never even got a nod when a company is looking to build or re-locate. Now is the time to do the right thing and GROW aviation in Kentucky. The Kentucky Department of Aviation is doing a great job in providing our Airport's with much needed funding and support. This is an exciting time to be involved in aviation! Please support this initiative!

8) HB 705 is the RIGHT THING TO DO! [by Anonymous Citizen on March 4, 2008]
As a Kentucky taxpayer, business owner and pilot, I am strongly in favor of HB 705.

With as much positive attention as Kentucky is getting in national aviation magazines (due wholly to the efforts of our own Dept of Aviation), it would be counter-productive for a potential private aircraft owner to learn that the aircraft that he or she is planning to bring to our commonwealth (with all of the potential ancillary revenue) is a target of what I consider to be an unfair tax. Non-commercial aircraft should be EXEMPT!

PASS HB 705!

An additional property tax on aircraft will have a negative impact on regional airport revenues. I support the tax exemption bill.

11) HB 705 Aircraft Tax [by Anonymous Citizen on March 4, 2008]
Aircraft assessed excessive taxes can reside in user friendly states and move to where they need to go. By removing this propoerty tax those owners will base their aircraft closer to home which means storage buildings and jobs for mainataince crews and flight crews. Plus those aircraft will buy fuel in the Commonwealth. The multiplier for these high paying jobs and services is 6 or 8 which means greater returns for the Commonwealth and the community in which they are based.

13) Aircraft Taxation [by ky_fly_chick_5 on March 4, 2008]
An exemption to the local taxes assessed on aircraft would be greatly beneficial not only to aircraft owners but to the community as a whole. Access to air transportation is a critical element in a community's ability to retain and attract businesses, and directly reflects a community's economic health and the ability to provide jobs.
Please support HB 705!!!!

This bill makes perfect sense for the Commonwealth both from an economic development and a fairness perspective. In this day and age we have to be competitive, especially with surrounding states. WE MUST PASS THIS BILL to preserve and grow the aviation industry in Kentucky.

I still object to special tax exemptions. All businesses and people should be subject to the same set of rules.

do you play golf? Ky owns around 19 golf courses around the state. I dont play golf and I am really perturbed about paying taxes for the damm things for others to play golf. I would like to fly. Take my golf course tax and stick it into aviation. I'll be happy.

17) I understand [by Anonymous Citizen on March 4, 2008]
I do understand your point, but it sure is a shame to see all that money from a Kentucky Corporation going into another State's economy! It could be going into education or something that benefits us here!!

18) Indeed, but businesses leave for lots of reasons [by newmark on March 4, 2008]
Businesses leave because we break our health care. Just ask Congressman Geoff Davis why his company is in Tennessee.

Businesses leave because they get taxed too greatly. The AMC tax certainly doesn't help small business.

Then Frankfort turns around and uses a portion of that money to buy off the biggest of those companies to stay in the state.

There are multiple reasons that businesses leave. My point is that Frankfort should be business-friendly all the way around, and lower taxes on all fronts to attract new business.

Everyone should play by the same rules. It's stupid that Frankfort runs businesses out of the state, but this is no different than any other moronic tax they levy.

19) Here We Go Again... [by Anonymous Citizen on March 4, 2008]
I sincerely wish more folks would seriously consider this Bill!! It would mean SO MUCH economically to the Commonwealth!! It would bring back Kentucky Corporations from keeping a large part of their assets in neighboring States. They would bring back the investments they have already made in neighboring States. For instance, a Kentucky Corporation was forced to move company assets to southern Ohio. Since that time, they have invested OVER $20 MILLION DOLLARS in that airport alone!!! That could have been Kentucky!!! WHAT A SHAME!!!! Please consider this bill...it will only be GOOD for Kentucky!!!!
